Review the sample email below from KnowBe4 and take a look at your spam or junk folder. Can you spot the red flags that caused your filtering system to quarantine those messages from your inbox?
Run through these questions if you do receive an email that seems suspicious, especially if you’re using a personal account for your business or feel like your company’s email filtering isn’t doing a great job:
- Do you know this sender?
- Do you normally receive this kind of email at work?
- Is there a link or attachment that you’re being asked to click or open?
- If there is a link, when you hover over it, does it take you to a different address than you expect or to an odd URL?
- If there is an attachment, is it a potentially dangerous file extension, like a Powerpoint or executable (.exe) file?
- Does the sender give a sense of urgency, providing a short timeframe to receive a response or for the link to remain active?
We recommend keeping a careful eye on your email and have strategies from KnowBe4, our trusted partner in security awareness, to share with you:
