Many people operate their computers with the highest privileges available on the machine. This enables us to install and modify the system at will without escalating to another account. In addition, some complex software may require this level of user rights to run properly. Though this exposes the user to a host of issues if they accidentally run malicious code. Ransomware occurrences have spiked over the past few years, some high profile breaches making it to the news. Many issues can be mitigated by simply having an up to date antivirus and using safe web browsing tactics, but may not always be enough. Establishing an administration account and demoting your current profile to a standard user is a viable last line of defense that could mitigate certain disaster and should be utilized in any mission critical or high profile system.
